Diverse community of disabled young adults celebrating together

Our story

We don't dis abilities.

We're a disability lifestyle and wellness community built on the radical idea that disabled people deserve to be seen, celebrated, and heard — on our own terms.

Our mission

To dismantle ableism one story at a time — by amplifying disabled voices, sharing real wellness strategies, and building a community where every ability is valued.

Don't-Dis-Abilities was born from frustration with a world that treats disability as a problem to be fixed. We believe differently. Disability is identity, culture, and community. Our platform exists to reflect that truth back to the people who live it every day.

How we started

How it all began

It started with a conversation that kept getting cut short. Every time disability came up in wellness spaces, the narrative defaulted to inspiration porn, miracle cures, or pity. We were tired of it.

So we built something different. A space where disabled people write about their own lives — their wins, their frustrations, their adaptive strategies, their joy. No inspiration required.

Today, Don't-Dis-Abilities is a growing community of writers, readers, and advocates who believe that disability culture deserves its own platform — loud, proud, and unapologetic.

What we stand for

Our values

Nothing about us without us

Every story, every resource, every decision is led by disabled people. We don't speak for the community — we are the community.

Radical honesty

We don't sugarcoat. Disability is complex, messy, and beautiful. We tell the whole truth, not just the parts that make non-disabled people comfortable.

Intersectionality first

Disability doesn't exist in a vacuum. Race, gender, class, sexuality — we center the full humanity of every person in our community.

Joy is resistance

In a world that expects disabled people to suffer quietly, choosing joy is a political act. We celebrate it loudly and without apology.

Community voices

Real words from real people in our community.

This is the first wellness space that has ever made me feel like my disability is part of who I am — not something I need to overcome.

I've been writing about disability for years and never found an audience that actually gets it. Don't-Dis-Abilities changed that.

The merch is just the beginning. This community gives me language for experiences I couldn't name before.
